Sky, Liberty Face Off in Win-or-Go-Home Game 3
Could the defending WNBA champions get eliminated tonight? After a dominant Game 2 to bounce back from losing Game 1, the Sky face a win-or-go-home showdown with the Liberty tonight in Brooklyn, the headliner of tonight’s sports slate.
Also on the docket is a busy day of baseball, including a Subway Series clash between the Mets and Yankees and a matchup featuring dueling aces when the Dodgers and Brewers face off tonight.
Here’s what I’m watching today.
A quick note: Due to COVID-19, sports schedules are fluid and subject to change.
MUST WATCH:
Chicago Sky at New York Liberty
The biggest difference for Chicago between Game 1 and Game 2 was its defensive performance. The Sky allowed the Liberty to shoot nearly 50% from the field and 44% from downtown in Game 1, but clamped down in Game 2 and held the Liberty to just 33% from the field and 3–20 from three. But playing on the road is never easy, especially in the postseason. Will Candace Parker be able to lift Chicago into the semifinals, or can Sabrina Ionescu and Natasha Howard break through?

LINEUP:
• Little League World Series | Four more potential elimination games are on tap today in Williamsport. The first game of the day features a Nicaragua team that survived an 11-inning elimination game over the weekend against Japan taking on the team representing Panama. Plus, the nightcap features Texas taking on Iowa. Games at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m. ET, ESPN, watch on fuboTV
• Cleveland Guardians at San Diego Padres | Both these teams are in the thick of the playoff race in their respective leagues, as the Guardians hope to hold on to the top spot in the AL Central, and the Padres try to get some breathing room in the NL wild-card push. Former Cleveland righthander Mike Clevinger takes the ball for San Diego tonight against Aaron Civale. 9:40 p.m. ET, Bally Sports Great Lakes/San Diego, watch on fuboTV
• Milwaukee Brewers at Los Angeles Dodgers | The Dodgers’ World Series hopes took a big blow last week when Walker Buehler was ruled out for the remainder of the season. The pressure is on the rest of the Dodgers’ rotation, especially tonight’s starter Tony Gonsolin, to raise their games to give L.A. a pitching staff capable of carrying the team to a championship. Gonsolin will have to outduel Brewers ace Corbin Burnes tonight. 10:10 p.m. ET, Bally Sports Wisconsin/SportsNet LA, watch on fuboTV
HIDDEN GEM:
New York Mets at New York Yankees
The Yankees would do almost anything to end this dreadful stretch of play … even some very strange superstitions, as Stephanie Apstein wrote about today. The Yanks are still mostly in control of the AL East and got a win last night to start this week’s Subway Series, but they clearly aren’t close to the team that got off to such a roaring start to the season. They’ll send deadline acquisition Frankie Montas to the mound tonight against Taijuan Walker.
