Wings, Sun Fight for Last Spot in WNBA’s Semis

Plus, more action from the LLWS and another chance to watch the surprising Orioles.

The showdown in Brooklyn last night between the Sky and Liberty was tight into the fourth quarter, but Chicago pulled away late to advance. The last spot in the second round of the WNBA playoffs is up for grabs tonight in Dallas, which headlines the sports slate for Wednesday.

Also on the docket: Little League World Series action from Williamsport, Champions League qualifying and another chance to watch the surprising Orioles in action.

Connecticut Sun at Dallas Wings

Another day, another Game 3 in the WNBA playoffs. The winner of this one will get a crack at the defending champion Sky in the second round, while the loser will go home. Connecticut won Game 1 in blowout fashion behind a balanced scoring attack that put five players in double figures, but the Wings bounced back in Game 2 for their first playoff win in more than a decade behind big games from Kayla Thornton and Teaira McCowan. So who has the edge in Game 3? We’ll find out tonight in Dallas.

HIDDEN GEM:

Chicago White Sox at Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles are now six games over .500, a mark that would have seemed next to impossible when the season began. This has been the best story of the baseball season, and Baltimore hasn’t slowed down, even after dealing a few key pieces at the trade deadline. But the Birds are still 2.5 games out of the last wild-card spot in the AL and will need to finish strong to sneak into the postseason.Tonight the O’s take on another playoff contender in the White Sox, who’ve hovered around .500 all season long.
