The Brazilian side, meanwhile, lost the first leg to fellow Brazilian first division club Atlético Goianiense 3-1 before winning the second leg at home 2-0. The two Brazilian teams then went to penalty kicks to decide the second finalist of the tournament, where São Paulo took a 4-2 win.
