Connecticut put it all together in Game 1 with its trademark defense from last season and its improved offense from this season to collect the 93-68 win behind seven players scoring eight or more points:
It helps to have the reigning MVP Jonquel Jones go for 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists with four other players contributing double-digit scoring.
Alyssa Thomas was the standout in Game 1 finishing with 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to fill up the stat sheet on just 11 shots in 31 minutes of action. With Thomas playing the way she has this season, it takes the pressure off Jones and DeWanna Bonner to play within the offense and win as a team.
On the other side for Dallas, they got 30 points out of their bench and were led overall by Alisha Gray with 17 points.
Gray and Isabelle Harrison were the only Dallas players to shoot above 50% from the field as the team struggled to create great shots or have a safety blanket on offense without Ogunbowale.
