Jacobsen wins 2nd Four Hills ski jump event

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) Anders Jacobsen of Norway defeated four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann to win the second ski jumping World Cup of the Four Hills tour on Thursday.

Jacobsen soared 135.5 meters for the first-round lead and held his nerve with a second jump of 136.5. He finished with 286 points, 6.6 more than Ammann, who had jumps of 138 and 133 meters.

''I'm a bit surprised myself actually. These two days in Garmisch have been like a dream. I had a really good Christmas,'' said Jacobsen, who also won Wednesday's qualifying event. ''This hill does something magical to me.''

Ammann, of Switzerland, failed to qualify for the final round of the tour's opening event at Oberstdorf on Monday.

Peter Prevc of Slovenia repeated his third-place finish from Oberstdorf with jumps of 136.5 and 136 meters for 276.9 points, while two-time Four Hills winner Gregor Schlierenzauer of Austria placed fourth.

Richard Freitag and Severin Freund were the best-placed Germans in ninth and 10th place, respectively, leaving home fans disappointed for the second event in a row.

''It's not an exhilarating result,'' Germany team coach Werner Schuster said. ''It's like our top two people are cursed.''

Stefan Kraft of Austria leads the traditional holiday-season Four Hills tour standings with 561.9 points at the halfway stage after placing sixth at Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Prevc is just 1.1 points behind.

The tournament next moves to Innsbruck, Austria, with a competition on Sunday.

Austria's Michael Hayboeck leads the overall World Cup standings with 549 points from 11 events, ahead of Czech jumper Roman Koudelka and Norway's Anders Fannemel, both on 530.
