Martin Brodeur: '80 percent' chance I'll play next year

Martin Brodeur says there's about an "80 percent" chance he'll return to the ice for one more season. And though he's set on testing the free-agent waters, he could return to the New Jersey Devils for one more season.

“I’m not closing (the door) here at all,” Brodeur told The Star-Ledger's Rich Chiere on Sunday. “It will be a decision I’ll make after offers are brought to me. It might be July 1st or it might be way after July 1st.

“It all depends on what is on the table, whether it’s in New Jersey or somewhere else. I’m open-minded about it. I’m looking for specific things some teams probably can’t give me. And that’s understandable at my age. But if I feel I can play and people want me, we’ll see.”

The 41-year-old Brodeur has spoken out this season about his displeasure of sitting more often as he splits time with 28-year-old Cory Schneider. It sparked speculation that Brodeur could be dealt ahead of this month's NHL trade deadline.

Brodeur told The Star-Ledger that he wants to play more next season. He has started 36 of the Devils' 74 games this season and it's not clear if he'll get a bigger workload in the future.

“I’m not going to sit more than I sit this year. That’s not something I want,” Brodeur said. “If I come back, it’s not a question of money. It’s because I still love it and I still enjoy the game.
