LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A judge is due to hear the case of a former UNLV basketball player facing criminal charges that he stole expensive Nike sneakers, $500 cash and almost $900 worth of video games from a friend's apartment last May.

The Monday court date comes amid talks between Savon Goodman's defense attorney, Bill Terry, and prosecutors about avoiding a trial on misdemeanor conspiracy and felony burglary and grand larceny charges.

Terry told Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Cynthia Cruz in November that the 20-year-old Goodman no longer lives in Las Vegas and he hopes the court will accept a written plea.

Goodman quit the Runnin' Rebels in October after coach Dave Rice announced in August that the 6-foot-6 sophomore forward from Philadelphia would sit out the 2013-14 season.
