Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman Announces Transfer to Notre Dame

It’s official—Sam Hartman is headed to Notre Dame.

The quarterback became a powerhouse in the ACC during his last five seasons with Wake Forest as he set the ACC record for touchdown passes. Over the course of 45 games, Hartman threw 110 touchdowns and 12,967 passing yards, leading the program to a 27–18 record.

Notre Dame had expected to be a favorite landing spot when Hartman entered the transfer portal late in December. The Fighting Irish saw their 2022 starter Drew Pyne head to Arizona State that same month.

The last two campaigns have been dominant for Wake Forest as Hartman led them to an 11–3 record in 2021. But the ’22 season began rocky after when he missed the opening game after suffering a blood clot, which was non-football related. He ended up being diagnosed with Paget-Schroetter syndrome.

Hartman picked up where he left off for the Demon Deacons, leading the charge to an 8–5 record with a bowl win. He will now join a program that went 8–4 and beat South Carolina in the Gator Bowl.
