Sagan wins Tour de Suisse stage; Dumoulin retains lead

OLIVONE, Switzerland (AP) Peter Sagan of Slovakia sprinted to victory on a twisting road Monday to win the third stage of the Tour de Suisse, which was shortened by rock falls on the course.

Sagan also earned time bonuses to climb to third overall behind leader Tom Dumoulin of the Netherlands, who placed fifth and retained the yellow jersey.

On a reduced 117.3-kilometer (72.9-mile) route in the Swiss Alps, Sagan outsprinted Daniel Moreno of Spain to clock 3 hours, 35 seconds.

Moreno rose to second overall, trailing Dumoulin by five seconds. Sagan has the same time.

Thibaut Pinot of France was third Monday and is fifth overall. Pinot, who was third in the 2014 Tour de France, is favored for the highest mountain stage on Wednesday.

The nine-day Swiss race is the last major warm-up for the Tour.
