Dallas Seavey has won the Iditarod dog sled race in Alaska for the third time in four years.

Seavey completed the 1,000 mile trek across Alaska in a little more than eight days and 18 hours.

Seavey, winner of the 2012 and 2014 Iditarods, finished ahead of his dad, Mitch, who also competed in this year's race.

While 78 mushers began the race, official standings show that one has been disqualified and eight others have been scratched.

The prize for winning the race is $70,000 and a new pickup truck.
