Ball on Which Babe Ruth Promised Sick Boy a Home Run Comes to Auction

An artifact from one of the most iconic moments of Babe Ruth's career is coming up for sale. The ball which Ruth signed with a promise to hit a home run for an injured Yankees fan is set to hit the auction block.
During the 1926 World Series Ruth heard about "Little" Johnny Sylvester, a devoted 11-year old Yankees fan who was hospitalized after falling of his horse and being kicked in the head. The team decided to send him an autographed ball, on which the famed slugger promised to hit a home run for the fan. Ruth then proceeded to hit three home runs in Game 4 of the World Series against the Cardinals, the most ever hit in a series game at that time.

The auction will conclude on February 6th, 2014, Babe's 119th birthday, and will also include letters and memorabilia Little Johnny received from football great Red Grange, and tennis star "Big Bill" Tilden.
