Mike Mayock raps Rapper's Delight at the NFL Combine

The NFL may be stale in the offseason, but these beats are fresher than ever.

For commentators and observers, the NFL Combine is a long week of watching athletes repeat the same drills while reading and rereading endless stats.

To cope, many of those in attendance make time for more diverting pursuits. Rich Eisen, embracing the regenerative power of cardio, runs the 40-yard-dash every year. This year, his booth partner, Mike Mayock, chose a slightly different activity.

As players hunkered down into the starting position for the dash, Mayock broke out–from memory–a few bars from Rapper's Delight, the 1979 hit by the group the Sugarhill Gang.

You can watch the video here, Mayock really gets going at about the 1:35 mark.

No word if Mayock has any more performances planned, this year or in the future. But if his daughter has her way, his debut will also be his finale.

Don't fight the funk, Leigh. He's gonna need all the practice he can get if he ever wants to match this Texas news reporter doing the Blackalicious' 'Alphabet Aerobics.
