Cubs honor Ernie Banks in first spring training game

Manager Joe Maddon included a nod to recently deceased Cubs icon Ernie Banks on his first lineup cards with an inspirational quote from the former shortstop.

The Chicago Cubs are honoring Cubs icon Ernie Banks in the team's first spring training game since his death last month, with special hats and outfield design both featuring his No. 14.

The quote reads, "You must try and generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you wont be happy anyplace."

Chicago is wearing No. 14 jersey patches all season to honor Banks. The former shortstop appears on the cover of this year's media guide. 

Maddon often includes quotes on his lineup cards and last year used the space as a tribute to Robin Williams after the comedian's death.
