Penn. high school QB takes friend with Down syndrome to prom

He planned to take her to prom in the fourth grade.

Ben Moser, a high school quarterback at Susquehanna Township High School in Pennsylvania, followed through with a promise he made years ago by taking a friend to prom.

Earlier in the month Moser took his friend Mary Lapkowicz, who suffers from Down syndrome, to the dance.

Moser's fourth grade teacher Tracey Spogli told The Patriot-News, that he "watched over Lapkowicz constantly" and would constantly try to include her in activities.

At the end of that school year he told his mother that he was going to take his friend to prom one day.

Over the years Moser and Lapkowicz maintained their friendship and Moser made sure to maintain a promise he made.

"We got balloons and I wrote 'prom' on it," the quarterback told The Patriot-News. "I presented her with the balloons and asked her to go to prom with me."

Moser's mom, Lisa, was moved by her son's actions. "I watched a promise made, 7 years ago, to a beautiful girl fulfilled" she said in a Facebook post.
