Jahlil Okafor isn't playing games out here.
As the No. 3 pick in the draft prepares for his rookie season, he's been putting in plenty of off-season work. The Sixers' Beach Bash event, featuring current and former players and plenty of attractions for fans, took place Saturday, and Okafor took what was supposed to be a break from working out to meet a portion of his new fan base.
And, well, he took one. Sort of. Okafor played a little one-on-one with some of the youth in attendance, helping one such girl dunk the ball. It was cute.
But when you're as competitive as Jahlil, that type of charity can only go so far. And so, as an aspiring hooper—wearing face paint, an Okafor T-shirt at that—caught a pass on the right baseline and hoisted a shot in the big man's vicinity, watching his dreams come true and unfold ever-so-perfectly in front of his eyes.
Until Okafor decided otherwise, with emphasis.
It might be a little tougher for Philly to tank this year, one might think. He did the same thing at the SI offices, after all.
