Jake Arrieta’s son went deep on one of his pitches

Jake Arrieta gave up a hit to his young son Cooper at spring training

Teams are still in spring training which means even great players, like Cy Young award winner Jake Arrieta, are shaking off the rust. The Cubs ace threw a few pitches to his son Cooper down in Arizona recently, and the youngster lit his dad up.

In a clip posted to Twitter, Arrieta is seen serving up a pitch to his son who reaches out of the strike zone to rip one like a young Vlad Guerrero.

• Maybe 51-year-old Barry Bonds didn’t win a home run derby against the Marlins

Arrieta posted an impressive 1.77 ERA with 22 wins last year, but that is likely because he somehow avoided pitching to Cooper Arrieta in a single MLB game last season.

Cooper came into the national spotlight during the 2015 postseason as the star of one of the year’s best photographs, with him pouring champagne into his father’s mouth after the Cubs defeated the Pirates in the NL play-in game.
