Minnesota high school goalie makes 98 saves, team loses 12-0
Morris/Benson (Minn.) senior goaltender Tony Bruns may have set a state and national single-game record for most saves in a game as he stopped 98 shots, but he still found himself on the wrong end of a 12–0 loss.
“I was a little surprised,” Bruns told the Minnesota Star-Tribune. “My whole career I’ve had a lot of shots, but never that many. I thought it was just like any other game.”
Bruns told his coach that he was sore after the game and they were reviewing a penalty when they noticed the total. There were 45 shots on Bruns in the first period before another 41 came in the second and finished with 24 at him in the third.

The previous record recognized by the National Federation of State High School Associations is an 84-save game by Jamey Ramsey of Flint Northern (Michigan) in 1987.
Bruns had just 11 teammates suit up against Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato. Of the 12 members of the team, three are new to hockey. There was no back-up goalie.
