Fantasy baseball Weekend Primer: Roy Oswalt a cheap source of Ks
Notable nuggets on the upcoming weekend action that could swing your fantasy baseball matchup:
• It's the summer's beloved holiday weekend, and Colorado's Roy Oswalt would like to help you enjoy it. He'll take the mound against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, and while he has struggled in his three starts, he does have 21 strikeouts in 16 innings. He hasn't lost anything off his fastball, at least compared to the version of Oswalt we saw each of the last two years, with his average heat sitting at 91.6 mph. If you're chasing strikeouts on Sunday, he's your best bet.
• The most lopsided team matchup this weekend pits the Rangers against the Astros, and predictably gives us a great stream option, as well. Justin Grimm starts for the Rangers on Sunday and is widely available for the adding. He has struggled of late, allowing at least three earned runs in each of his last six starts, but if you're riding with him this weekend, it's more because of the matchup than because of Grimm himself. If I needed a win on Sunday and had to count on a streamed pitcher to get it for me, I'd choose Grimm.
• Finally, after trading Scott Feldman to the Orioles earlier this week, the Cubs had to shuffle their rotation. Part of that included moving Carlos Villanueva back to rotation from the bullpen. He had a great run as a starter earlier in the season, and still has a 3.45 ERA, 4.00 FIP and 1.17 WHIP. The Cubs play the NL-Central leading Pirates this weekend, and Villanueva takes the bump Sunday. While the Pirates have the best record in the majors, they've actually done it more with pitching than with hitting. In fact, their 331 runs through Thursday are the least in the NL Central and rank 23rd overall. Villanueva is ready to help this weekend.
Enjoy the games and have a great holiday weekend. We'll see you on Monday.
