Daily fantasy baseball: Start Roark, Arenado to win today's games

SI's FanNation app has arrived, offering daily fantasy sports games that let you put your skills on the line for money or just for bragging rights, leading off with the launch of Baseball Throwdown. Every day, SI's Michael Beller will release his lineup for that day's Baseball Throwdown contest and offer up other recommendations to get your team ready for the day's slate of games. Download the FanNation app today and get started challenging your friends.

Pitcher

Tanner Roark, Washington Nationals (@ Phillies) -- After tossing seven shutout innings against the Diamondbacks last week, Roark now has 10 starts this year in which he has gone at least seven innings and allowed one run or fewer. He is 12-7 with a 2.80 ERA, 3.42 FIP and 1.09 WHIP, putting him among the best pitchers in baseball this season. In his last outing against the Phillies, Roark allowed one run while fanning six in seven innings. He’s a great bet to outproduce his 12-point projection on Monday.

Infielder

Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies (@ Giants, Jake Peavy) -- Arenado has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball across the last week or so. In his last five games, he is 12-for-22 with two homers, three doubles, one triple and three RBI. In that same stretch, he has raised his slash line to .308/.350/.522 from .293/.333/.488. No longer is Arenado just a star with the glove; the Rockies third baseman has become an all-around stud.

Outfielder

Josh Hamilton, Los Angeles Angels (vs. Marlins, Jarred Cosart) -- Hamilton has finally gotten his bat started in the last week, going 6-for-16 with two homers, two doubles and eight RBI. His slash line remains an unimpressive .269/.340/.434, but he has showed signs lately of turning around what has been a terrible August. He doesn’t have a hit in four at-bats against Cosart, but daily fantasy gamers should trust the way he has been swinging the bat over his past performance against the Miami righty.

Other recommendations

Pitchers

Jeff Samardzija, A’s (@ Astros) -- Samardzija should be able to exploit an Astros team that has a 23.4-percent strikeout rate this season.
Kyle Lohse, Brewers (@ Padres) -- Lohse will take the ball on Monday despite an ankle injury. Given the setting and opponent, he is a strong play in daily fantasy leagues.

Infielders

Albert Pujols, Angels (vs. Marlins, Jarred Cosart) -- Pujols is having a strong August, posting a .274/.365/.476 slash line with three homers and 11 RBI.
Anthony Rendon, Nationals (@ Phillies, A.J. Burnett) -- Rendon is a career .417/.462/.917 hitter against Burnett with two homers and seven RBI.

Outfielders

Corey Dickerson, Rockies (@ Giants, Jake Peavy) -- Dickerson is 6-for-16 with two homers and four RBI in his last three games.
Ryan Braun, Brewers (@ Padres, Eric Stults) -- In his last five games, Braun is 7-for-22 with a home run, double and four RBI.
