The Red Sox acquired Cespedes shortly before the trade deadline in a blockbuster deal that sent starting pitcher Jon Lester to the Oakland A's. Lester was one of several Red Sox pitchers traded before the deadline, including Jake Peavy to the San Francisco Giants and John Lackey to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Cespedes is hitting .256 this season, with a .467 slugging percentage and 19 home runs, two of which have come in his nine games with the Red Sox.
