Report: Rays, infielder Asdrubal Cabrera agree to deal
The Tampa Bay Rays and switch-hitting infielder Asdrubal Cabrera have agreed to a contract, reports Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
Length of contract and financial terms were not disclosed and will be complete once Cabrera completes a physical. ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports that the two sides agreed on the deal before Christmas.
Cabrera hit .241 overall with 14 home runs and 61 RBIs last season with the Washington Nationals and Cleveland Indians, who dealt the two-time All-Star at the trading deadline.
Cabrera, 29, spent his first seven-plus seasons with Cleveland. He has the ability to play shortstop and second base, where he played 52 times in 2014.
The infielder's best season was in 2011, when he hit 25 home runs with 92 RBIs and won a Silver Slugger award.
Over his career, Cabrera is a .268 hitter with 87 home runs and 451 RBIs.
