The Minnesota Twins have released outfielder Jordan Schafer.

Schafer has not played since being placed on the 15-day disabled list in May with a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. He played 41 games with the Twins last season after the team claimed him off waivers from the Braves in August.

Over 27 games with Minnesota this season, Shafer batted .217 with zero home runs and five RBIs. He was playing on a one-year, $1.55 million contract. The 28-year-old had previous stints with Atlanta and the Houston Astros.

The Twins currently sit in second place in the American League Central division with a 36–30 record.
