Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Josh Harrison has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a thumb injury, the team announced Monday.

Harrison sustained torn ligaments while sliding into second base during a game on Sunday against the Cleveland Indians.

In a corresponding move, the Pirates called up veteran Travis Ishikawa, whom the team claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Harrison is in his fifth season with the Pirates. Over 75 games this season, the 27-year-old has posted a .279 batting average with four home runs and 22 RBIs.

Pittsburgh, which currently sits in second place in the National League Central, opens a three-game series against the San Diego Padres on Monday.
