San Diego Padres play-by-play announcer Dick Enberg announced Wednesday he will step down as the team’s primary announcer after the 2016 season.

Enberg has been calling games for the Padres since 2009. In July, the National Baseball Hall of Fame awarded Enberg the Ford C. Frick award for excellence in baseball broadcasting.

Enberg has held numerous play-by-play jobs in the broadcasting world. He has called golf, college basketball, the NBA, the NFL and tennis in addition to MLB games.

From 1990 to ’99, Enberg called play-by-play for the NBA on NBC. From 2000 to ’10, he was a fixture on CBS for the NFL. He has been awarded broadcasting awards from the Halls of Fame in baseball, basketball and football.
