The 10 Spot: Jan. 16, 2007

1. Seventy-two-year-old James Hylton is trying to qualify for the Daytona 500. He'll be piloting the Metamucil Lincoln Town Car.

2. The buildup is already starting for Sunday's Patriots-Colts AFC Championship showdown. Some think the Colts will win; others believe Peyton Manning will lose.

3. LaDainian Tomlinson and the Chargers are upset at what they viewed as overly exuberant celebrations by the Patriots after their playoff victory on Sunday in San Diego. Come on, it didn't look so bad. The Pats didn't even shove any photographers.

4. Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck revealed on Monday that he played with two broken fingers for the final eight games. Countdown to the Tony Romo injury revelation starts now.

5. Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has introduced a plan to build a $1 billion Olympic Village on 77 acres if the city lands the 2016 Games. In sports, of course, Chicago has long adored amateurism. Just look how popular the Cubs are.

6. Detroit native Chris Webber announced Monday that he will join the Pistons in a return to the state where he starred in high school and at the University of Michigan. Webber will only make the veteran minimum, but that's before the boosters kick in.

7. Email of the Week: "Detroit homie..... Detroit!" That was the message sent by Webber to an Associated Press reporter on Monday when asked for an update on his future. This doubtless sent shockwaves through the typically staid AP organization, which had to scramble to decide whether "homie" or "homey" or, perhaps, something more watered-down such as "bro" qualified as proper AP style.

8. A 49-year-old Illinois man set a world record over the weekend by riding a stationary bike for 85 consecutive hours. He said it was cheaper than a vasectomy.

9. The Senate may ban its members from accepting free tickets to sporting events. In related news, we've seen the last of publicly funded sports stadiums.

10. Quote of the Week: "I'd kick David Beckham's ass on any given day. I'd just pick the ball up and kick the s--- out of the stadium, game over." Any guesses as to who said that? It was rapper The Game, though judging by his comments (and shaky understanding of the rules), The Game's game isn't soccer.
