CYPRESS, Calif. (AP) -- A jockey was injured in a fall Friday night at Los Alamitos Race Course in Orange County, the track's publicity director said.

Eight thoroughbreds were racing when one horse, Onebadboy, went down and the horse behind him, Merlin Z, tripped and fell, Orlando Gutierrez said.

Merlin Z's rider, Cesar DeAlba, was transported to University of California, Irvine, Medical Center with possible broken ribs, the director said. He was expected to be treated and released.

Jockey Guillermo Gutierrez, who was riding Onebadboy, did not seek treatment, according to Orlando Gutierrez.

Onebadboy was injured in the fall and was taken away by ambulance, Orlando Gutierrez said. The horse's condition was not known. Merlin Z returned stable and did not appear to be hurt, he said.

According to its website, the track hosts both thoroughbred and quarter horse racing.

Los Alamitos Race Course is located in the city of Cypress, about 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
