Michelle Wie, who won her first major (the U.S. Women's Open) in June, will be out three to five weeks with a stress reaction in the bone in the index finger of her right hand, ESPN.com's Mechelle Voepel reported Saturday afternoon.

Wie will miss next week's LPGA Championship in upstate New York, and her status for another major, The Evian Championship in mid-September, is in doubt, Voepel reports.

The 24-year-old withdrew from the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan on Thursday, saying she couldn't grip her clubs.

Writes Voepel: "[Wie was examined in Cleveland by hand surgeon Tom Graham, who described the ailment as an 'acute-on-chronic' injury that was influenced by the volume of her practice and competitive play."

Said Wie in a statement: "I was looking forward to playing the next three weeks. It's honestly one of my favorite stretches on tour. It's extremely disappointing to miss these events, but I am relieved to have a proper diagnosis."
