Man Cited for Illegally Driving on Chicago’s NASCAR Street Course

A 46-year-old man who drove an unauthorized vehicle on a NASCAR side track in Chicago on Saturday received three citations for the incident, The Chicago Tribune reports.

The Loop 121 Xfinity Series race, which takes place on the streets of Chicago, was postponed Saturday due to lightning at 5:05 p.m. CT. According to police, the man drove into a barrier that borders the track at around 9 p.m., before police apprehended him on South DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

At the time of the race’s postponement, which was 26 laps into the 55-lap race, Cole Custer was in the lead with John Hunter Nemechek in second. The race resumed Sunday at 10 a.m. CT, with the Cup Series Grant Park 220 race moved back to 4:05 p.m. CT.

The Xfinity Series race is 55 laps on the 2.2-mile course, and the Cup Series race is 100 laps. It’s the first time NASCAR has competed on the streets of Chicago.
