New York Jets cornerback Dimitri Patterson has released a statement through ESPN's Josina Anderson refuting claims he left the team without notice.
The Jets suspended Patterson for the remainder of the preseason on Monday after he left the team from Friday until Sunday and reportedly did not notify the team in advance. He missed missed last Friday's preseason game against the Giants.
Six teams who could make the leap into postseason
Patterson said he was in communication with the Jets over the weekend. The full statement is below:
"As it relates to my whereabouts and me missing for 48 hours without being seen or heard from me or my representative is completely false," he said in the statement. "My agent reached out to the Jets organization multiple times several hours prior to Friday night's game. My commitment to the Jets organization and to my teammates has never been an issue and never will be an issue. As it relates to the rumors about my frustration in regards to the depth chart is totally and completely false. In nine years I have never had control over the depth chart."
Patterson was listed as a starter on the team's depth chart before his suspension. This will be his first season with the Jets after playing the past two years with the Miami Dolphins.
