Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams is out for Sunday's game against the visiting Steelers with a hamstring injury, the team announced before the game.

Williams was expected to start after practicing on Friday, but head coach Ron Rivera decided to hold the 31-year-old out.

Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert will shoulder the running back duties in Williams' absence.

Williams, who also missed last week's win over the Lions, had 14 carries for 72 yards in a season-opening win over Tampa Bay. He has 6,699 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns in nine seasons with the Panthers.

Carolina wide receiver and former Steeler Jerricho Cotchery is also inactive with a hamstring injury.
