The NFL draft is long gone and free agency is winding down, but despite a general lull in organized team activities, the NFL rumor mill is still buzzing.

Mini-camp workouts gave teams a chance to see their draft picks and new signings compete against established veterans. The free agents who have yet to sign contracts could end up with new homes soon as the start of training camp looms. Teams expected to contend once again will see if their strengths appear to be carrying over to next season, while teams looking to turn around losing efforts will see what they have.

July 9

• NFL.com reports that Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has fractures in his right thumb in addition to an amputated right index finger as a result of a fireworks accident. Pierre-Paul will be out for about six weeks with the thumb injury.

• NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says that a decision on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension for Deflategate should come next week.

• Rose Bowl officials say they won't be the temporary home for an NFL team should one or more franchises decide to relocate for the 2016 season.

July 8

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz (patellar tear) says he think will be ready for the start of the team's training camp later this month.

• The NFL and English Premier League soccer team Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to a 10-year stadium partnership. The NFL will play at least two games each season at Tottenham's new stadium during the duration of the deal.

• Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Andre Johnsonsaid he wanted to play for the Miami Dolphins, but the team never reached out to him after he was released by the Houston Texans.
