New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese spoke with defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul on Sunday, Reese told WFAN's Boomer & Carton Monday.

The conversation marked the first one someone from the Giants front office has had with Pierre-Paul since a July 4 fireworks accident resulted in the defensive end having his right index finger amputated.

Reese declined to provide details on what was said, calling it a “personal conversation,” but did classify it as “good.”

“I want to keep it private between him and I and I'm just going to leave it at that,” said Reese.

Reese was also asked about the Giants reported attempts to reach Pierre-Paul in the days and weeks after the accident to no avail.

“It didn't rub me the wrong way,” said Reese. “You have to think of it like this: When somebody has a catastrophic, traumatic incident like that—it's life-changing, what happened to him ... When something like that happens, you really don't want to see anybody. I get it. So we're not pissed off, we're not mad about it. We were just trying to say, ‘Look, we're here for you, we want you to get well, any resource we can give you, let us know.’”

Pierre-Paul, who is reportedly rehabbing his hand injury away from the team near his South Florida home, has not yet signed his $14.8 million franchise tag tender for next season. The Giants can rescind the tender, thus making him a free agent.
