RB Fred Jackson fine after car crash, will play for Seattle

RENTON, Wash. (AP) Seattle Seahawks running back Fred Jackson will play Thursday night against San Francisco after being examined by the team following a minor car crash, coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday.

Jackson participated in the team's walkthrough practice before departing to face the 49ers. It's the second car accident the Seahawks are dealing with after fullback Derrick Coleman was involved in a two-car crash last week that led to his arrest for investigation of vehicular assault and hit-and-run.

''Just disappointed. We talked about it today to the whole group,'' Carroll said. ''How that happened within a short time I don't know ... and Fred talked to the team as well to give everybody the heads up to make sure we're doing the right things and not making any more mistakes.''

Jackson's accident happened Tuesday night near the team's facility. The Renton Police Department said that shortly before 5 p.m. PDT, Jackson lost control of his 2016 Chevrolet Corvette as he drove down Seahawks Way. A stop sign and street signs were knocked over in the wreck. Jackson's vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage. Jackson remained on scene until officers arrived and was cooperative.

Carroll said Jackson was ticketed and he's confident no other players were involved.

''Just very fortunate that nobody was hurt and we're lucky in that regard,'' Carroll said.

Coleman, who was reinstated to the roster this week after his involvement in his own accident last week, will not play against the 49ers due to a concussion suffered in that crash. Carroll said doctors have not cleared Coleman to return to action. Coleman was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault and hit-and-run and was later released. No charges have been filed.

Seattle will also be without center Patrick Lewis (ankle) after he made his first start of the season last week against Carolina. Drew Nowak will move back into the starting lineup after starting the first five games.

The Seahawks will be deeper on defense with the return of All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner, defensive end Frank Clark and reserve defensive back Tye Smith. Wagner sat out the loss to Carolina with a strained pectoral muscle, but was cleared to play this week. Carroll said if Wagner has any issues, K.J. Wright will move back to middle linebacker.

Clark missed last week's game with a hamstring strain while Smith was out because of a hip injury.
