Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett has been placed on IR due to a rib injury and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.

Bennett, 28, re-injured his rib in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers, after having originally sustained the injury on Nov. 22 against the Broncos.

This season, Bennett has recorded a team-high 53 catches for 439 yards and three touchdowns.

Bennett, a 2014 Pro Bowl selection, will be replaced on Chicago’s roster by former Browns tight end Rob Housler, who was waived by Cleveland on Nov. 17. While with the Cardinals, Housler recorded 45 catches for 417 yards in 2012 and 39 catches for 454 yards in ’13.
