New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season, reports NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

Ingram was limited in practice two weeks ago with a shoulder injury, but had yet to miss a practice or game. The Saints did not list Ingram on their Wednesday injury report.

Ingram has played in all 12 games for the Saints this season. He has seen limited carries over the last three games, running the ball just 26 times.

Last week, Ingram carried the ball 12 times for 56 yards and a touchdown in a 41–38 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Ingram has rushed for 769 yards and six touchdowns on 166 carries this season. The Saints are likely to turn to C.J. Spiller and Tim Hightower to handle carries. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports New Orleans signed running back Austin Johnson off its practice squad.

The Saints (4–8) play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6–6) on the road Sunday.
