The Miami Dolphins have hired Cincinnati Bengals defensive back coach Vance Joseph as defensive coordinator, the team announced on Tuesday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the news.

The hire is the first major move for new head coach Adam Gase, who was hired to replace interim head coach Dan Campbell just a few days ago.

Joseph’s new role in Miami will be his first defensive coordinator job. The 42-year-old has worked in the NFL since 2005, holding the title of defensive backs coach with the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans, along with the Bengals.

Joseph spent two seasons in the NFL as a cornerback, playing for the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts
