Warriors star Stephen Curry pumped up the Panthers before the start of the Super Bowl by banging the team’s “Keep Pounding” drum.

Curry, a Charlotte native, took the field in a custom Panthers jersey to beat the six-foot drum. Keep Pounding has been the team’s motto since its last Super Bow run in 2003, when then-linebackers coach Sam Mills inspired the team with the phrase he used in his own battle against cancer.

Mills, a four-time Pro Bowler, died of intestinal cancer in April 2005. A different honorary drummer strikes the drum before each Panthers’ home game. Curry beat the drum before Carolina’s home opener in September.
