Mays’s suspension is for violating the NFL’s substances of abuse policy, reports NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
Mays played in 14 games for the Oakland Raiders last season, recording 26 combined tackles. The safety’s contract expired after the season.
A former second-round pick in 2010, Mays spent one season with the Raiders after four with the Cincinnati Bengals. Mays, 28, also played for the 49ers for his first two years in the league.
In his career, Mays has played in 80 games, recording 124 tackles and one forced fumble. Nick Moody, a free-agent linebacker, was also suspended four games.
