Doug Whaley: ‘Poor choice of words’ to say humans shouldn’t play football

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley released a statement regarding a comment he made about how he doesn’t think humans are meant to play football.
“Clearly I used a poor choice of words in my comment yesterday morning,” Whaley said. “As a former player who has the utmost respect and love for the game, the point that I was trying to make is that football is a physical game and injuries are a part of it. Playing football no doubt is very physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging, and that is all part of what makes the game so compelling to watch.”
Whaley continued on to say that the league provides “more protection for players now than ever” and that he believes football has a “bright future.”

The initial comment came when Whaley was asked about the injury history of wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Watkins had surgery for a broken foot during the off-season and is expected to be out through the preseason.
