Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt wrote a note to his fans on Sunday after undergoing successful back surgery last week.

He posted a photo of the handwritten note on Twitter.

“As I sit here, recovering from back surgery, the doctors won’t really let me do much, so I end up just pacing around my house all day. I’ve spent a lot of time reading through the notes and letters that y’all have sent to me and [I’m] trying to respond to as many as I can. I know I won’t be able to respond directly to everyone, so I wanted to write one note to all of you to say thank you. You make our jobs possible, you make them fun and you make difficult times like these much easier. So thank you, I truly appreciate you. See you on the field very soon.”

Watt will be on the PUP list to start training camp, but is expected to be ready to play in the Texans’ season opener against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 11.

Conflicting reports have said Watt could require as many as 10 weeks of recovery, knocking him out of the first three games of the season and putting his five-year streak of not missing a start in jeopardy.
