Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has signed his franchise tender and will begin practicing on Monday, the team announced Monday.

“It’s good to have him back,” coach Andy Reid said. “He’s got a smile on his face and he’s ready to go. His hair is a little longer, but other than that, he’s ready to go.”

The Chiefs placed their franchise tag on Berry in March and the two sides were unable to reach a long-term deal before the July 15 deadline. He will earn $10.806 million this season.

Reid said that he does not expect Berry to play against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday in Kansas City’s preseason finale.

Berry was named the AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year and earned his second All-Pro honor in 2015. The four-time Pro Bowler recorded 61 tackles and two interceptions last season.
