The New Orleans Saints have placed rookie defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins on injured reserve, according to the NFL transaction report for Monday.
The team has not officially commented on Rankins's status.
Rankins sustained a broken fibula in practice last month and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
New Orleans can activate one player off of its injured reserve list during the season but doesn't have to say which player until the player is ready to be activated to the main roster.
Rankins was drafted by the Saints with the No. 12 pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
