Taylor Lewan Suing Doctor Over 2020 ACL Repair Surgery

Editors’ note, May 4 at 9:45 a.m. ET: An earlier version of this story misstated that Taylor Lewan has filed a lawsuit against the Titans over his 2020 ACL surgery. In fact, Lewan has clarified that the lawsuit is against the “doctor/entities” involved in the surgery, and not the team. The story also stated that Lewan is now retired. He was released by the Titans but intends to continue his NFL career.

Former Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan said Tuesday that he’s filed a lawsuit against “the doctor/entities” involved in the surgery conducted on the torn ACL in his right knee in October 2020. Lewan provided some insight into his decision on his podcast, Bussin’ With the Boys, though he declined to go into details, citing the ongoing case.

“I’m in an unfortunate circumstance where I have had to file a lawsuit against the people and entities that are involved in my surgery from October of 2020. I wanted to take this opportunity on this podcast to let all of you know what is kind of going on in my life,” Lewan said. “Fans that have followed my career, seeing those years before the ACL surgery and obviously after the ACL surgery, kind of wondering, ‘What the hell is happening with Lewan?’”

Lewan was limited to just five games in the 2020 season before undergoing the procedure. He played in 13 games the following year, then managed just two in the ’22 campaign before another torn ACL in his right knee ended his season. The team released him in February 2023, citing a failed physical.

Prior to undergoing injuries, Lewan ranked among the best offensive linemen in the NFL. He earned three Pro Bowl selections from 2016 to ’18 after being taken by the Titans with the No. 11 pick in ’14. Lewan made news following his release earlier this year when he shared a photo of garbage bags on his front porch containing his belongings that he said were left there by the team.
