Pittsburgh Fans Chant for Steelers’ Matt Canada to Be Fired During Penguins Game

Even a win isn’t enough to protect Matt Canada from angry Steelers fans. During an NHL game between the Penguins and Blackhawks Tuesday night, Pittsburgh fans spontaneously broke out into a “Fire Canada!” chant. And no, they weren’t referring to the country.

The Steelers offensive coordinator has faced relentless criticism for his team’s struggles to score and it appears the natives will take any opportunity to attack him. It’s worth noting that the Steelers beat the Ravens 17–10 on Sunday and the two teams are currently tied atop the AFC North with 3–2 records.

The Penguins, however, lost Tuesday’s matchup 4–2.

Fans also chanted “Fire Canada!” during the team’s eventual Week 2 win over the Browns and it was reported earlier that if Pittsburgh’s offense didn’t have a good Week 5 performance, Canada would be on the hot seat, per NFL Network. The Steelers didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard over the weekend, but a win is a win and there’s been no mention of Canada’s job being in danger ever since.

Going into Week 6, the Steelers are averaging just 268.2 yards per game and 15.8 points per contest. Both rank 30th and 29th in the NFL, respectively.
