Jets to Sign QB Brett Rypien, Waive Tim Boyle, per Report
The Jets are signing quarterback Brett Rypien off of the Seahawks’ practice squad and releasing Tim Boyle, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
The news initially was reported by Josina Anderson of CBS Sports and subsequently confirmed by Antwan Staley of the New York Daily News and Rich Cimini of ESPN.
Rypien entered the league with the Broncos in 2019, and he spent four seasons with Denver before joining the Rams earlier this season. Between Denver and Los Angeles, Rypien has played in 10 games with four starts in the NFL, totaling 950 passing yards with four touchdown passes and nine interceptions.
The 27-year-old started one game for the Rams in November, but was released after the team signed Carson Wentz, and he later joined the Seahawks practice squad. New York previously tried to acquire him in September, but the Rams added him to their active roster first.

Boyle spent most of this season as the Jets’ backup but took over for Zach Wilson as the team’s starter two weeks ago. The veteran totaled 360 passing yards this season with one touchdown pass and four interceptions, along with an 0-2 record.
After benching Boyle in the middle of Sunday’s loss to the Falcons, the Jets have yet to make a decision as to who will start at quarterback this week. Rypien joins Wilson and Trevor Siemian as healthy quarterbacks on a Jets team that has lost five straight games.
The Jets (4–8) play host to the Texans (7–5) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
