Titans Lose to Seahawks Thanks to Dreadful Mistake on Game’s Final Play

The Tennessee Titans fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Seattle Seahawks in a 20—17 loss on Sunday that came down to the final seconds. Literally.

Down three points with a minute to go in the fourth quarter, the Titans were advancing down the field into field goal territory hoping to tie the game and go into overtime.

On a 2nd-and-20 at the Titans’ 40-yard-line, quarterback Ryan Tannehill connected with wide receiver Colton Dowell for a three-yard pass, but Dowell couldn’t get out of bounds in time to stop the clock.

Seahawks corner Tariq Woolen made a crucial tackle on Dowell inbounds near the sideline. Since Tennessee had no more timeouts, the final precious seconds of the game ticked away.

Tannehill took two brutal sacks on the final offensive drive prior to the game-ending play, which ate up a chunk of the Titans' time and put the team in a more difficult position for a last-gasp comeback. Tennessee's clock management at the end of Week 16's agonizing defeat could come under heavy scrutiny as the team suffered its 10th loss of the season.

The Seahawks improved to 8—7 and remain in the hunt for a playoff berth.
