Longtime NFL QB Says Bears Would Be Wise to Commit to Justin Fields
Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel believes the Chicago Bears should consider sticking with Justin Fields as the franchise’s quarterback, despite a plethora of quality signal-callers in April’s NFL draft.
Chicago (7-10) currently holds the No. 1 pick in this year’s upcoming draft with the option to select an elite quarterback such as USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye or LSU’s Jayden Daniels. Fields started in 13 of Chicago’s 17 games this year, including Sunday’s 17-9 loss to the Green Bay Packers, where Fields completed 11-of-16 passes for 148 yards.
Despite Fields’s struggles, Daniel is convinced that Fields is Chicago’s “quarterback of the future” after the long-time backup completed a film breakdown of every game Fields played in during the 2023 NFL season.
Daniel put a specific emphasis on Fields’s game-winning touchdown pass to DJ Moore against the Detroit Lions in Week 14. After dissecting the play, Daniel determined that Fields’s use of his “pocket movement, pocket awareness and arm strength” instead of relying on his legs to make a play shows his growth as a quarterback.
“This shows his evolution as a passer and everything he’s been able to do,” Daniel said.
In three seasons in Chicago, Fields is 10-28 as a starter. In his Bears’ tenure, Fields has thrown for 6,674 yards, 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions while completing 60.3% of his passes. He has also rushed for 2,220 yards and 14 touchdowns.
