Hurricanes activate Walker off IR, recall Helminen

The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled forward Dwight Helminen from Albany of the AHL and activated forward Scott Walker from injured reserve.

The Hurricanes made the moves Tuesday before their game against Southeast Division rival Washington.

Walker missed the last 15 games with an upper-body injury, but was expected to skate against the Capitals. He has three goals and 10 assists in 34 games of his third season with Carolina.

Helminen was brought up on an emergency basis to replace forward Jussi Jokinen, who returned to Finland following the death of his father.

Helminen is making his second appearance this season with Carolina. The 25-year-old had a goal and an assist in eight early season games.
