Williams signs with Red Wings

DETROIT (AP) -- Forward Jason Williams is returning to Detroit.

The Red Wings announced Thursday that Williams has signed a one-year contract. Other terms were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old free agent played 233 games with the club between the 2000-2001 season and the 2006-2007 season, posting 49 goals and 67 assists.

The native of London, Ontario, last season played with the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets. He also has played for the Chicago Blackhawks.

In 376 career NHL games, Williams has 205 points with 85 goals and 120 assists.
