MALMO, Sweden (AP) -- Nic Petan broke a tie on a power play with 2:46 left in Canada's 5-3 comeback victory over Slovakia on Monday in the world junior hockey tournament.
Canada (2-0-1) wrapped up a spot in the playoff round entering its Group A finale Tuesday against the defending champion United States (3-0-0).
David Griger scored twice, and Martin Reway added a goal for Slovakia (1-2-0).
In the other Group A game, Germany beat the Czech Republic 3-0. Frederik Tiffels had two goals and an assist for Germany (1-3-0), and Marvin Cupper made 40 saves. The Czech Republic, coming off a shootout victory over Canada on Saturday, dropped to 1-2-0.
In Group B, Finland beat Russia 4-1, and Switzerland edged Norway 3-2.
Saku Maenalanen, Rasmus Kulmala, Henrik Haapala and Joni Nikko scored for Finland (2-1-0). Valeri Vasiliev scored for Russia (2-1-0).
On Tuesday, Sweden (3-0-0) will face Russia, and Finland will complete group play against Switzerland. If Russia and Finland win in regulation to tie Sweden, the positions in the playoff round will be decided by goal differential in the games among the three teams.
Anthony Rouiller broke a tie for Switzerland (1-2-0) with 8:18 remaining. Norway finished 0-4-0.
